Building your elevator pitch
The four-block formula, the three versions to prepare, and the mistakes that make a pitch forgettable.
What a pitch has to produce
Not exhaustive understanding. A question.
A pitch's success is measured by one thing only: does the other person follow up with oh, and how do you do that? If so, the conversation has started and you have won. If not, they nod and start looking for the buffet.
So a pitch is not a summary. It is an opening move.
The four-block formula
Block 1, who for. I help architecture practices... Naming the target makes it concrete immediately.
Block 2, what problem. ...who lose huge amounts of time going back and forth with their clients... The problem has to be recognisable in one sentence.
Block 3, how. ...by putting a three-stage approval process in place. Short, no jargon.
