Pairing speed reading with a mind map
The method for coming out of a book with a usable map, built while you read.
The problem
You read fast, you understand well, and three weeks later nothing is left. That is normal: reading is an input, not a processing step. Without restating, the trace fades.
The solution is not to reread. It is to produce something while reading.
Why a mind map rather than linear notes
It forces you to rank: you cannot put everything at the centre. It is visual, so it is better retained. It fits on one page, so it can be revised in two minutes. It makes the links explicit, which a list never does.
The Mind Mapping & Note-Taking module covers the technique in depth. Here is the protocol specific to reading.
