Planning: from calendar to blocksLesson18 minModule lesson
Deciding: explicit criteria rather than inherited urgency
Eisenhower, opportunity cost, leverage: how to decide what will not be done.
The real subject
Prioritising is not putting tasks in order. Prioritising is deciding what will not be done.
As long as you drop nothing, you are not prioritising: you are postponing.
The Eisenhower matrix, used properly
| Urgent | Not urgent | |
|---|---|---|
| Important | 1. Crises, deadlines | 2. Prevention, strategy, relationships, health |
| Not important | 3. Interruptions, requests | 4. Distractions |
What everyone knows: you should live in box 2. What nobody does: box 2 has no deadline, so it never demands anything. It is systematically crushed by box 1 and box 3.
