How attention actually worksExercise14 minModule lesson
Measuring your attention baseline
Three simple tests to know where you stand, so you can measure progress objectively.
Why measure
Without a starting number, you will never know whether the module works. And the subjective impression is a poor judge: people often feel focused just before they drift.
Three tests, thirty minutes in total, to be repeated at D+21.
Test 1: sustained task duration
Choose a demanding, real cognitive task: writing, coding, analysing. Start a timer. Stop it the moment you leave the task, including for a glance at your phone or a tab opened just quickly.
| Duration | Profile |
|---|---|
| Under 8 min | Very fragmented attention |
| 8 to 20 min | Average for knowledge workers |
| 20 to 45 min | Good level |
